About September 11, 2001

Well, obviously a sleepless night, as I'm sure many of you are having. There are so many thoughts going through my head, but first and foremost I hope all are well. Having spent the last 9+ hours on the air fielding calls from people in Boston, I can honestly say I was both surprised and uplifted to find humanity in the face of such utter inhumanity...compassion, understanding and empathy in a world I wasn't sure had any. I have learned so much in the past 24 hours. Trying to find good in the unfathomable, I think if there is any sense to be made in this senselessness, it is that maybe simply, we should just learn to appreciate one another, not to take anything for granted, and perhaps to express gratitude when any is due. So to anyone (as you all have) who has made me smile, or laugh, or confided in me...just know, I don't take that lightly, I appreciate each and every moment. To my friends and loved ones in NY and DC who I have been unable to contact by phone, please drop me a line to let me know you are okay, my thoughts have been with you each and every moment for the past 24 hours. I apologize for the informality of this note, but the sentiments are, I hope somewhat universal. I know I am generally cynical to a fault, but I hope we can all find some place in our hearts to take something positive away from this tragedy.

Much love,
Melissa
